SuperNanny

Discuss all those things you can't talk about in church

SuperNanny

Postby Shawn Cuthill » Mon Mar 21, 2005 10:10 pm

Sat down to watch the only TV show I actually watch called Supernanny last night. This weeks show was about a family with 4 kids, the 3 year-old appropriately being named Blake! :)

Blake was the one that SuperNanny had to work the hardest with. He would run out onto the street, hit his brother, throw temper tantrums.

I must have heard the word Blake a thousand times

Wow. That was so not me as a kid. I was shy and really introverted, very sensitive and kind. My mother says I never threw a tantrum, ever. She has no problems about telling embarrassing stories about me, either, so I'm inclined to think she was telling the truth.

And then I grew up.

I thought Blake, not my Blake, the shows Blake, was the the tamer of other children they have had on there. I love Supernanny! I think she is amazin'. (said in her best JoJo English accent) some of her tips I think are so good.

have you tried any of them? a friend of mine did the night time advice and it worked like a charm.

The thing about supernanny is that she comes in there for a short period of time. So she is a new comer and the children don't know what to make of her. Outside of hollywood, in the "real world" her tips don't tend to work for family's because the children know what they can and can't get away with and they constantly know how to bend the rules.

Good entertainment for sure, but thats about where it ends.

The words "good entertainment" do not belong in a sentence about a "reality television" show.

well you are watching it for something correct?> Entertainment I would guess. You are certainly not watching it for suggestions on how to deal with your children. (I think there is a disclamer in the credits about that)

I can't imagine anyone watching something for a reason other then entertainment. Now, I guess you could argue that you are watching it for it's "poor entertainment" value in which case, it is only your day you are wasting. lol

Note that the critics of supernanny have no children :)
There are some basic things you can learn, even if it is just watching other parents screw up :D

Trust me, you wouldn't find me watching so-called "reality television" for entertainment. The only reason you'd catch me watching it is if someone else turned it on and I couldn't change the channel. :)

Never bothered to watch it. I boycott "reality tv" as a whole because IMO it is responsible for the demise of good scripted television, Joss Whedon's "Angel" in particular. And yes, I'm still bitter. :)

LOL touche!

I guess because I worked with kids for so long I see the benefit in Miss JoJo. She is coming out with a book soon.

The apprentice is pretty good to and sometimes I watch the contender, just to get back that feeling I used to get when I watched those Rocky movies :D I heard there was some other nanny reality TV show called "Nanny 911", but I haven't seen it. Maybe it's just in the states?

Other than the nanny, where can a parent go to get help these days?
Does anyone know churches that offer parenting courses? I think in this day and age it would be a great outreach.
