I've done a few studies. I'll use this section to link to them as I post them.

On my site, I've been highlighting tools that can be used to do an effective Bible Study and so far we’ve underscored reading the text. But today I wanted to highlight how a person might want to examine the meanings of words.

Here's the http://wp.me/pbR50-Qs

Dealing With Church Problems

Postby Rey » Mon Aug 13, 2012 10:02 am

I’ve noticed when a church has problems (or more often before problems) they try to figure out what to do to make things better. Mind you, that might be fine. If a church has money issues, it might be a good idea to examine spending habits and prepare for the future.

Thing is, some of the problems are specifically spiritual but folk try to contrive a fix using the flesh. Now, what I mean by that isn’t what the modern ear would hear. I’m not saying “things that have to do with our internal faith have to be dealt with by praying or other faith-things instead of using our physical selves to deal with it.”

I mean that we can’t deal with these situations, whatever they may be, using the methodology and empowerment of the old system we’ve been rescued from. Church gossip might be addressed by saying “stop doing this” or “gossip hurts people” and then maybe having get-to-know-one-another-parties: but this is based more on what the world values in the Flesh System than what God has revealed as valuable to deal with these issues.

I suggest examining the thought model offered by Paul’s letter to the Church at Corinth.

I wanted to look at what is wrong with the KJV and other versions of the Bible by looking through some translation issues, the history of our Bibles, and finally things that the modern reader needs to be doing.

Thanks for the link, interesting article.

Many of the more "traditional" Brethren assemblies here in the UK only use the KJV. Some even discourage reference to, or study of, the original languages for fear that it might undermine the authority of the KJV. This is in fact a complete reversal from the early days when some of the leading Brethren were active in trying to better understand the original languages and more accurately establish the original text. Darby's translation of the Bible was one of the first new English versions to be made post-KJV.

It's wild when they go as far as t even discourage reading the original languages. Wow!

Should Christians Support Guns?

Postby Rey » Sat May 11, 2013 5:13 pm

Some Christians, especially after a horrible incident—like the Newtown shooting at Sandy Hook public elementary school or the Aurora Movie Theater, or Columbine or Virginia Tech—wonder if it’s right for them to support guns. They ask things like “Shouldn’t Christians love their enemies? Why should they support guns at all?” and “why are American Christians so violence craved that they are adamant supporters of guns?”

What I want to do in this article is highlight what I think is a Biblical position regarding guns. I’m sorry that I can’t deal with the question directly. With so many unspoken assumptions, I have to get to the text through the fog of misinformation.
